Story
Thank you for visiting my page. I've chosen to complete Swim for Sarcoma UK challenge, swimming 31km in 31 days for Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.
I met Maddie a few months ago, having already heard about her from my friend and work colleague Elspeth. I was immediately struck by her vivacious, positive and gorgeous personality.
Maddie was diagnosed with ASPS, an incredibly rare Sarcoma, when she was just 18 and had just started studying classics at University. A time when most young people are enjoying new and exciting times was an unimaginably difficult and frightening time with many hospital appointments back in London and a major operation to remove the initial tumour on her shoulder.
Maddie in typical style didn’t let this prevent her from embracing student life and she completed her degree whilst also spending a year of study in Rome.
Treatments for this type of Sarcoma are few and far between and hope to halt the progression. It is however incurable at the moment. Sarcoma Uk has been an incredibly valuable support for Maddie and her family and the research into new treatments is invaluable but completely reliant on charitable funding.
Thank you for your support!
