Story
Last year my mum, Sheila Knight, passed away after spending her last 42 days at St. Lukes Hospice in Plymouth. I had planned on doing a cycle challenge in her memory, but last year just wasn't the right time for me.
So the theme for this fundraising challenge is 42. Playing with that number I will:
1. Cycle 4200 km
2. Reduce my weight by 4.2 kg with a stretch target of 8.4 kg. At the start of this challenge my weight was 89.1 kg.
3. My fundraising target will be based on multiples of £42, initially £420. Following the 42 theme a stretch target is £1764 (42 x 42).
I am kicking this challenge off, with a ride in Portugal. This challenge is from Chaves to Faro, end to end in 5 days.
According to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, the number 42 is, the "Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything".
Cycling for charity is an amazing chance to put myself to the test while also raising funds for end of life care in our community. Pedalling my bike keeps the wheels of hospice care turning!
At home, in hospital or at the St Luke's specialist unit based at Turnchapel, the funds I raise will help St Luke's to continue to provide specialist care for patients and support for families.
By taking part, I will be contributing towards the total St Luke's need to raise each year, and helping to care for somebody in our local community at a time they really need it.
