Story
On October 4th this year I will be Cycling across Kenya for Transaid. I was selected for this once in a lifetime opportunity by my employer MAN Truck and Bus Uk after a lengthy process. Every year we support this charity along with our regular charity Alzheimers uk. This challenge will involve six days and over 300 miles of scenic cycling from Nyeri at the foothills of Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria – all on two wheels. Along the way, I will experience Kenya’s lush, mountainous countryside, and stunning, expansive panoramas. A country renowned for its diverse wildlife and safari, there is also the opportunity to spot giraffes, zebras, buffalo and more, as the route includes a game conservation and acres of bushland. Transaid are a charity who work in sub-Saharan Africa, road deaths are the third biggest killer following HIV/AIDS and Malaria and the problem will only rise with the growing population. Drivers are at risk every time they sit behind the wheel due to a lack of legal enforcement and training, and badly maintained and overloaded vehicles. I will be as always spending many hours on the saddle in the lead up to this epic trip.
