** TOMMYS TRIATHLON **
(5K run, 10 mile cycle, 15 lengths swim)
‘Tommy’s Tomorrow’ fund through ‘Just 4 Children’ helps to provide therapies and intervention such as Intensive Neuro Movement Therapy, brain plasticity therapy, equipment, home adaptions and adapted toys to give Tommy a fighting chance to thrive.
We have been meaning to do more events to raise funds and we’ve had a few ideas in our heads but have finally settled on starting off with this one….
So the main man himself, Tommy and his Daddy plan to do a mini triathlon together, Father and Son!
How is this possible I hear you ask?
Well last year with thanks to the many generous donations and previous funding we were able to get an ‘off-road’ style wheelchair for Tommy to give him access to the wider outdoor world, a very nice piece of kit and Tommy just loves it!
Our plan for the first stage is to do a 5k run pushing Tommy in the wheelchair from Earlston to Redpath.
For the second stage we will then swap the connections on the front of the wheelchair and link it up to my bike for a nice smooth 10 mile bike ride from Redpath to Kelso Swimming Pool.
Lastly, we will head into Kelso swimming pool and complete 15 lengths of the pool. Tying in with the ‘meeting of minds’ swim session on the same day.
Kelso swimming pool is fantastic for Tommy as it has all the required hoisting and changing facilities that many other local places are lacking.
We recently visited Kelso swimming pool with ‘meeting of minds’ and found the disabled facilities and helpfulness of the staff far superior any other swimming experience we've had.
Tommy just loves the water and his little legs go like the clappers once in the water so I might struggle to keep up with him!
This may not seem like very much to some people but believe me for our Tommy it will be a challenge and for his Daddy who will be by his side the whole way!
If anyone else fancies joining us along the way for part or all of it then please feel free to get in touch and we will sort something out.
