Tom fundraiser for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
Amy and I are very lucky to have a beautiful, happy, healthy little girl, Ottilie, who joined us in January 2024. But before Ottilie, we had Smartie.
I'm running London Marathon for Amy, Ottie and Smartie.
Finding out that Smartie (named after the sweet size in the pregnancy tracking app) was growing outside the womb was the worst day of my life. The future I'd been planning in my head for just 9 days was changed.
And it was all down to a medical condition that I was completely unaware of, with scary treatment, and with an uncertain impact on the future.
Ectopic pregnancy is a common, life-threatening condition that is the leading cause of maternal death in the first trimester of early pregnancy. The condition affects around 1 in 80 pregnancies in the UK and occurs when an embryo grows outside of the womb.
Somewhere in the back of my head, I knew I knew someone who posted a lot about the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust. So after a quick Google, both Amy and me got onto the website, started using all of their brilliant resources, and in the hospital treatment room went on a crash course in the subject.
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust strives to provide information, education and support to those affected by early pregnancy complications and to the health professionals who care for them. The EPT believes that the deaths and trauma associated with ectopic pregnancy should be prevented
I know Amy in particularly found their resources an invaluable comfort. Knowing that there were other people out there who had made it through this, recovered physically and emotionally was a massive comfort to her.
We seek to relieve the distress associated with the experience and provide ongoing support through their treatment and beyond. Please support our passionate runners who will be training hard to pound the streets of London raising crucial funds and awareness for ectopic pregnancies.
For a long time pregnancy loss was one of *those* subjects. But now it's something we're comfortable talking about. So if you ever need someone, we're both here.
