Tom's fundraiser for Sue Ryder

London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
Sunday 21st April 2024 I will be running my 1st London Marathon. 3 years ago I completed a virtual marathon and said never ever again. However things change and not always for the better. On the 25th June 2023 after a brave battle I lost my step Dad to cancer. He was one of the most genuine kind-hearted soul’s you would ever hope to meet.
As you can imagine this was one of the hardest times for us as a family, however we were fortunate enough that Del was able to remain at home and surrounded by his loved ones.
This is where Sue Ryder came in. Nothing quite prepares you for supporting a loved one at the end of their life. That’s why we are so thankful for charities like Sue Ryder. Not only did they make Del comfortable in his final days, they provided him with the palliative care and dignity that he deserved. The support and compassion they provided to the family was second to none. In such a difficult time we can't thank Sue Ryder enough.
I felt it was only right to give something back and push myself well outside of my comfort zone. I’m a keen runner but never envisioned taking on another marathon due to the time and training required to complete such a task, however going through this horrendous experience, it has taught me to cherish every day and push yourself because anything is possible, with the love and support of your family.
