Story
This June, I’ll be taking on the Grand Départ Classic in Lille, cycling the same roads as the Tour de France riders, all to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
I’m doing this alongside a good friend Calam, whose dad has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with one in eight men in the UK diagnosed in their lifetime. It’s a disease that doesn’t always show symptoms early, which is why raising awareness and funding for research is so critical. The work of Prostate Cancer UK helps to improve early detection, develop better treatments, and ultimately, save lives.
I am a keen cyclist, but this ride will be a real test for me at 185 km. Calam is aiming to complete the route in under six hours, maintaining an average speed of 31 kph - a significant challenge given the distance and elevation gain. As I continue my training, I’ll assess whether this is an achievable goal for me.
I am very grateful for any contribution that you can make towards my fundraising goal of £1,500.
