Story
My gorgeous nephew Oscar, is a 3 year old IVF miracle from Bedford. Sadly, he suffered a HIE (Hypoxic-ischaemic Encephalopathy) event at birth. This essentially means that Oscar’s brain was starved of oxygen when he was born. A few weeks later, he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy due to the HIE injury. In Oscar’s case, this means that he has very little control of his arms and legs.
It was a very tough time for us as a family, and especially me as an individual, to come to terms with. The shock and the unknown was the hardest thing to deal with, especially as Oscar had been a text book pregnancy up until the point he was born.
Fast forward 3 and a half years and Oscar has grown into a cheeky, determined and tenacious little superstar. His parents (Mark and Leah) have given him absolutely everything possible and have worked themselves tirelessly to give their little man everything they can. This is where I come in…
I will be participating in a 15,000ft skydive (along with Leah) to raise funds for life-changing surgery for our little Warrior! This will see him go to Great Ormond Street Hospital to get specialist treatment whereby doctors will alter the connections in his body so that he will be able to learn to control his limbs. Doing this will hopefully give him the best possible chance of doing all the things he so desperately wants to do and these surgeries and therapy will help to support his independence. Anyone that has met him, will know just how determined a little boy he is!
I have set my target at £777 as this represents the 7 minutes that Oscar was without oxygen for; this is something I have chosen to do in solidarity with Leah!
Just4children want to help give Oscar the dream of being independent.
