Story
A friend of mine, Sam Perkins, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2019.
Rather than dwelling on such life-changing news, Sam set up the charity Stand Against MND and has raised over £200k to date.
When you're diagnosed with MND there's a 50/50 chance you will die within just 2 years. Investment in research is the best way to change that.
Sam has been a continual inspiration to me ever since, with some unbelievable achievements, in the face of adversity, for the charity.
When he began looking for his Fifty50 team, 50 fundraisers to help raise important funds for further research, I saw this as the perfect way to get involved in any way I could. 50 fundraisers, each with a £500 target and I am one of those 50.
I had to think of something that would physically challenge me in a way that nothing has done before.
Living in Silverstone, a stone's throw from the famous racing circuit (and working for Mercedes F1 Team) but also being a life-long Nottingham Forest fan, I began to hatch a plan.
Sharing Sam's love of Nottingham Forest, who have shown such support to the charity, I will run from Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit to Nottingham's City Ground (home of Nottingham Forest) to their home game against Fulham on 28th September and then run back to the Silverstone Circuit. A 300km round trip.
Many of you will know that i run casually as a hobby but this is way, way above and beyond anything I have ever attempted.
Any contribution you can give would be so well appreciated and really help carry me on this journey, knowing what a great cause it will help.
I'm honoured to be one of the Fifty50 fundraisers, I just hope I can raise my game to the challenge, even just a fraction of how Sam has raised his over the last 4 years.
12 months. 50 fundraisers. A £500 target each. A £25,000 impact.
