Story
We are both aiming to run the 2024 London Marathon for Brain Research UK and our Dad.
In 2020, the worst year in the lives of many due to Covid, became our family’s worst nightmare when our Dad, Martin Dyke was diagnosed with a Grade 4 brain tumour, just 6 months after his retirement and 3 months after his 60th birthday!
A Grade 4 brain tumour (also known as Glioblastoma Multiforme) is the most aggressive form of brain cancer, with sufferers given a life expectancy of just 18 months post diagnosis. As you can imagine, discovering that our much loved Dad has this cancer was devastating, and quite frankly terrifying.
As I write this, our Dad, Martin, is still battling on almost 3 years post diagnosis. He has been impacted physically and mentally by this horrendous disease and is still receiving treatment. But he is still with us and for this we are truly grateful.
Our Dad’s continued fight with brain cancer has been driven by his own steely determination and heroic grit, combined with our Mum's unwavering love, care and courage. In addition to this, they have received fantastic treatment and support from the NHS at Nottingham, Leicester and Cambridge (Addenbrooke’s) hospitals.
Our aim is to raise money for the Brain Research UK Charity to fund more research to treat, cure and prevent brain cancer for future generations, and to avoid other people suffering in the same way that our Dad has.
Please wish us luck (our injury prone bodies will need it!) and we would be very grateful for any donation received.
Thank you. 😊
Love
Tom and Lewis xx
More info about the Charity....
Brain Research UK is the UKs leading national funder dedicated to research into neurological conditions. We fund vital research to increase understanding, improve diagnosis and treatment, and work towards the prevention of neurological conditions, to help people who suffer with them live better, longer. Our funding is currently focused on three priority research areas: Brain tumours, Brain and spinal cord injury, and Headache and facial pain. These are areas where there is a large unmet patient need that is not reflected in current funding levels. By concentrating our efforts on these three areas, we can have a more significant impact.
Help us to make a difference - your support means that we can continue to fund life-changing research so that people living with neurological conditions can live better longer.
