Tom was tragically diagnosed with MND last year, aged 29.
Tom absolutely loves the game of rugby. He played for Sheffield Medics RUFC from 2013-2021 (captaining the 1st team for the 2017-18 season) before joining Sheffield Hallamshire RUFC shortly afterwards, where he is still a dedicated clubman to this day.
His two former clubs are coming together on Saturday 26th April for a charity fundraiser in his honour, competing for the Tom Davies Cup and enjoying the sport that Tom loves so dearly. We want to raise as much money as possible for MNDA, both in the run-up and through activities on the day itself.
Alongside rugby, Tom has PhD in plant biology with an emphasis on sustainability, and a passion for protecting the environment. Tom is characterised by his friendliness, good nature, constant smile in the face of adversity, and a spirit and positivity that has touched everybody who knows him. It's an honour for the rugby community to give something back to somebody who has been such a positive contributor to the game and those who play it.
Testimonial from Alex, Tom's partner:
"Tom is genuinely the most wonderful person I’ve ever met. He shows immeasurable kindness and compassion to everyone, and in a room full of people, Tom will always make sure that everyone is okay. He has dedicated his career and much of his personal life to making the planet a better and more sustainable place and has a really admirable way of calling out injustice, always quietly and humbly doing the right thing. He has an astonishing knowledge of sporting trivia, historical events, George Ezra lyrics, and is generally a lot of fun to be around.
Motor Neurone Disease is a cruel disease and has brought with it enormous challenges. Even since his diagnosis, Tom has remained positive, courageous, and continues to wish the best for everyone around him. The Motor Neurone Disease Association has made a great difference to the lives of Tom and the people closest to him: from providing a listening ear in the darkest times, supplying equipment to enhance Tom's abilities, through to giving advice and awarding grants which allow Tom the best quality of life.
Tom was always an extremely talented sportsperson, and he now enthusiastically cheers on the rugby teams who he can no longer play for. It's incredibly comforting to see how the rugby community and those beyond have gathered around to support Tom and for him to see how very loved he is. I am supremely proud of him and grateful to everyone rooting for him."
50% of the funds raised on this page will be directed to the South Yorkshire Branch of MNDA, and 50% will go to MNDA nationally, as per Tom's request.
