Tom's London Marathon for Sported

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
Okay... so anyone who knows me will know that I am NOT a natural runner and the last person who springs to mind when you mention sport!
When the opportunity popped up to take part in the London Marathon (27 April 2025) - I thought well YOLO, do it whilst my knees have their last few years left in them!
From saying yes, to actually beginning training - has been terrifying. I thought, oh god - what have I done? One thing I'm confident in is the carb loading - that's fun!
From barely being able to run more than a minute last year without getting out of breath, to just completing my first half marathon in April - I'm super proud of how quickly my body has adapted.
Running has really taught me how to have confidence in myself, set goals and say YES to things that seem really scary and maybe impossible. I've had a lot of self-doubt in the process, but I am hoping to tick the London Marathon off the bucket list this month, so I can say well - if I can do THAT - what else is possible !?
I really need all the support I can get to help get me over the finish line - and so proud to be able to support the wonderful charity Sported.
Barclays will also help match donations to reach a full target of £2000 so your generous donation goes even further to support charity.
THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! xxx
Not all young people have the same start in life and we know that community sport and physical activity can help them overcome barriers and fulfil their potential.
Sported supports the largest network of community sport groups in the UK and understands how strengthening the impact, sustainability and inclusivity of grassroots sports clubs allows them to transform lives and shape local communities.
The charity ensures that everyone has equal access to the myriad benefits provided by community sport.
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
