Story
In September 2023, my brother Ben was diagnosed with myelofibrosis, a rare form of blood cancer. While there are treatments available to help manage myelofibrosis, currently the only cure is through a stem cell transplant.
Stem cell transplants can only work if there is a suitable match on the stem cell register. At the moment, there is not a suitable match for Ben, and that's where Anthony Nolan comes in. Anthony Nolan manages the stem cell register, searching for potential donors around the world who are already on the register, helping recruit new donors, and advancing cell therapies.
Anthony Nolan’s world-leading stem cell register, groundbreaking cell and gene therapy research and expertise in stem cell transplants means they currently help four patients a day in need of a transplant, giving more people with blood cancers and blood disorders another chance to live.
This is why I'm taking on two challenges, starting with the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 13th October 2024, before taking on the the big one on 27th April 2025 - the London Marathon. Those who know me, especially those who saw my athletic ability back at school, know that I am no runner, with very little sporting ability, and have never done anything like this before. It's a rather daunting prospect, but with your support, I know it will all be worth it.
Please do consider donating what you are able to help support the fantastic work Anthony Nolan do, your generosity will be very much appreciated. If you're aged 16-30, please also sign up to the stem cell register. It's so easy to do, just fill out a short online form, then take a quick swab of your mouth and send it back in the post.
