Story
On the 21st April 2024 I will be running the TCS London Marathon on behalf of Children's Hospice South West. My Mum, Julie Maltman, has worked as a Nurse for 43 years, with the majority of that time being spent in Children’s (Paediatric) Intensive Care Units. For the past 4 years she has been working at Charlton Farm, for Children's Hospice South West. The charity is very close to my Mum’s heart and to those of my whole family. The money raised will help to support the nurses who are asked so much of and still deliver the most exceptional care for the Children and their families, often over several years and through the full spectrum of care including, inevitably, End of Life care.
I have always been amazed by and immensely proud of the work that my Mum has done over the past 43 years, I certainly could not do it myself! Raising money by running the Marathon will give me an opportunity to show my support for not only for all the Children in the Hospice’s care but also to my Mum, who despite the demands of the job and the emotional toll it can take, still is able to deliver excellent care to the Children.
I know that the support and care offered to each child at Charlton Farm is bespoke to their needs and helps to make the most challenging moment in anyone’s life a little easier to bear. The opportunity to raise money to support the work Charlton Farm will, therefore, make a difference to the Children, their families and the nurses that care for them - "Making the most of short and precious lives".
Thank you for your support
