Story
I used to donate blood as I am O- but when I realised I was gay I could no longer donate but Anthony Nolan doesn’t discriminate. I wanted to find an alternative where I could still help. This was Anthony Nolan. I signed up at university and the following year I was asked to provide another sample to see if it was a match, I was. I donated my stem cells after being on a dialysis like machine to separate the stem cells from the rest of my blood. I was told the receiver survived and is living. Yay.
Now that I am over 30 I can no longer donate stem cells but I still wanted to help. So I am cycling 100miles to raise money for AN.
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
