Story
This is my charity page for sponsorship towards my annual participation in the infamous Fred Whitton Challenge, a 112 mile sportive around the Lake District. Starting at Grasmere and taking in climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose and Blea Tarn passes, the Fred demands climbing of just over 3,600m.
Over the last 11 years, you, my generous sponsors, have enabled us to raise just over £21,250, which is amazing!
In addition to raising money, every year, I strive to improve my time, and year after year, I have managed to chip away at it with the ultimate goal of completing the gruelling ride in under 7 hours. Age is no barrier yet!
My training leading into this year's event has not been textbook, but I am still hoping to put in a good performance, as always. I have friends that have pledged to support me en route, both by carrying my supplies and by riding with me for certain sections to protect me from the wind. I am also hopeful that the Zappi Cycling Team who are sponsored by the Fred Whitton event (https://www.zappiracing.com/sponsors-juniorteam/) might spare a brilliant young talent or two from their Junior Team to help me round a bit faster - you can but hope. If this all sounds serious, it is, the Fred is not to be taken lightly.
I have decided to continue supporting the NW Air Ambulance. This is not only because of their essential work to support the local rural community but also the unprecedented increase in fuel costs, which have significantly affected their ability to serve us all.
If you are happy, willing and able to support me in this ongoing adventure, please do so here. All contributions will be warmly welcomed.
