Story
To help raise money for this fantastic charity I am aiming to run 100 miles throughout September. This will include organised events such as, The Great North Run and The Wigan 10K, along with my own personal runs in the evenings and on weekends.
Please help us to raise as much money as possible so that all families with critically ill children can be together during such a traumatic time.
Elliot's story
4 years ago, when Elliot was only 10 weeks old, my wife and I woke up to a grey, unresponsive baby, whilst on holiday in Cromer. The 'cold' that we thought Elliot was suffering with was in actual fact, MRSA-PVL which caused life threatening sepsis and necrotising pneumonia.
We rushed to the nearest hospital and stayed there for 11 days before the doctors realised they didn't have the correct facilities to help Elliot's deteriorating condition. They recommended specialist care at Addenbrookes Hospital.
Elliot had to be intubated for this journey, as he couldn't breathe on his own, and was blue-lighted to the hospital in a specialist ambulance. We were in Addenbrookes PICU for a further 10 days.
It was here that we had the pleasure of being introduced to The Sick Children's Trust; Acorn House. We had no idea that this charity even existed but it saved us!
We were able to stay in their accommodation, which was a 5 minute walk from the hospital, free of charge. We had everything we could possibly need which allowed us to think about Elliot and his needs, rather than the logistics and potential cost of being so far from home.
We feel extremely lucky that Elliot is now a fit and healthy 4 year old boy but, this was only made possible by our wonderful NHS and the amazing Sick Children's Trust.
