Story
Everyone deserves safety. But for far too many refugees, safety is the last thing they find when they arrive in the UK.
Can you imagine being forced from your home because you are no longer safe there, and making the dangerous journey to Britain? You might be hoping to be reunited with family, or excited to build a new life for yourself somewhere where you already speak the language. After everything you've survived, you deserve support, kindness and respect.
But instead you are threatened with deportation. Or you are left facing years of waiting to hear back about your asylum claim, banned from working, and living in squalid accommodation and poverty.
Refugees deserve better than this. And that's why I'm raising money for Refugee Action. They have been standing up for refugees since 1981, delivering services for refugees, and campaigning for their rights.
In September I'll be running 35km each week, the width of the English Channel, in solidarity with those having to make this treacherous journey: a total of 140km and an average of just under 5km per day.
The reason I've chosen this distance is due to the negative framing around refugees who have taken the desperate and life threatening decision to try to cross the English Channel. Amidst all the hostility that they are receiving at the moment, I want to raise money and awareness to afford them the humanity and dignity that they deserve.
Please sponsor me if you can, and help support refugees across the UK. Thank you!
