Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For the past five years I have taken part in raising funds for Crisis every March. Each year I have tried to complete a larger distance and this year I want to go even further and, like last year, I will do this by both running and cycling. I aim to cover 120km across the month, 40km running and 80km cycling!
As lots of you will know, I started my first challenge after talking with Dean, a man experiencing homelessness, who we used to talk to every week outside our local supermarket in 2020, just before lockdown. He told us how he became homeless after his Mum died and he no longer had anywhere to live. His story really affected me and made me want to help other people like him and make a difference. We didn't see him again after lockdown and I still wonder how he is doing and hope he's found a home.
This fundraising is still really important, with current figures showing over 350,000 people in the UK experiencing homelessness, this includes over 160,000 children. This is an increase of around 10% from last year.
Crisis is one of the main charities in the UK working to end homelessness and helping people who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. All of their funds come from the public and sponsors - their work isn't possible without fundraising events.
Over the past five challenges people have been really generous and I have been able to raise £4,300 and also have been able to raise awareness about the charity and my challenge in local papers and on the radio too. I continue to do this challenge each year to keep adding to this total as the work of the charity is needed more than ever, so I hope you are able to sponsor me again for such a good cause.
Thankyou so much.
Thomas
