Thomas's fundraiser for Brain Tumour Research

AJ Bell Great Birmingham Run Half Marathon 2025 · 4 May 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
To get to the point I will be running MANCHESTER FULL MARATHON and BIRMINGHAM HALF MARATHON all within one week of each other. Whilst training and ultimately finishing these races I will be raising money for brain tumour research.
My auntie Rachel has a grade 3 cancerous brain tumour. An Anaplastic Astrocytoma which is currently stable following surgery to remove as much as they could. The remaining tumour was blasted with radiotherapy & she had a year of chemotherapy.
She is currently living well with cancer, but the brain tumour will advance into an incurable Glioblastoma (GBM) The most commonly diagnosed high-grade tumour in adults affecting around 3,200 adults in the UK every year.
The only way to cure brain cancer is to fund more research.
Rachel’s local cancer support group - Ludlow Cancer Support Group is also attempting to raise much needed funds for a day’s research (£2,740) at the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at Imperial College London. It is working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of adults with high-grade glioma, including glioblastoma (GBM) The Centre has an outstanding 'Convergence Science' research programme that brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines, leveraging their unique skills to answer scientific and clinical questions that will improve patient survival.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This is unacceptable!
I am fundraising for Brain Tumour Research as they are the only national charity dedicated to funding long-term, sustainable research in the UK. Please help me fund the fight. Together we will find a cure.
