Story
Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page supporting the MND Association. The MND Association focus on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. By sponsoring us your money will help people affected by Motor Neurone Disease. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the MND Association.
The reasons we are running for the MND Association definitely comes down to both our healthcare backgrounds and therefore a curiosity with certain life changing diseases without much of a current cure/understanding. MND is certainly one that sticks out above the rest in that regard. We would love to see the money we raise go towards research to better understand the pathophysiology of the disease and hopefully the cure/improved treatments. Having met at university, myself and Jacks journey through the chiropractic program not only taught us the intricacies of musculoskeletal health, but also the harsh realities of neurologic diseases. As chiropractors we see neurological dysfunction on a regular basis and it is through our shared experience that we are coming together to make a difference.
On a personal level, Jacks family has been affected by the disease as his late grandmother Odette suffered with MND. Having seen first hand the harsh effects the disease can have; it is with this in mind that is spurring us on to tackle such a ridiculous task.
Now, Jack is definitely not an endurance athlete and I (Tommy) am not much more experienced in the field of long distance running. But rather stupidly, Jack - my javelin throwing, cricket bat wielding, barbell thrusting best mate from university posed the idea to me of running the Dublin to Belfast 2024 ultra marathon (107.2 miles/173km). We will have 30 hours to complete this race and based on our shear optimism, I think we might actually get it done. It’s not going to be easy, training hasn’t been so far that’s for sure. But with a great goal, a great charity and your support - I’m sure we will make it in one piece.
We appreciate any donation (literally anything) no matter how big or small.
Happy running!
Tommy & Jack :)
