Help Us Change Secondary Education: Lumiar UK

In September 2025, we are launching a groundbreaking new child-centered, project-based secondary programme in Wiltshire - the first Lumiar secondary school outside of Brazil!
Our mission: To create a radically different approach to secondary education--one where adolescents feel truly seen, supported, and empowered.
Our vision: To become a beacon of educational transformation in the UK, inspiring schools nationwide to reimagine what a 21st-century education system can achieve.
Our current education system lacks student agency, struggles to support neurodiverse learners, and fails to prepare young people for an ever-changing world.
The demand for a forward-thinking, inclusive secondary school in our community has never been greater.
Lumiar’s proven pedagogical approach—centered on interdisciplinary, hands-on learning—will equip students with the confidence, creativity, and skills to thrive.
The program is run by Tom Brown, a Montessori educator with over a decade of experience founding and running progressive primary and secondary education programmes.
We are not your typical school. We creatively operate on a shoestring and our fees are half those of a traditional private school programme. Ultimately, we are a group of educators who want to see the education system change for all children. Lumiar is a test bed for how secondary education can be done better for everyone, whether state, private or alternative.
It takes a village to run a program like this, and we are asking for financial support to help our program get off the ground. If you are a local family who wants to see this option become a reality, or a person who wants to influence change in education, please consider donating to our cause.
Your support will fund essential needs, including teacher and leader salaries, curriculum development, student books, lab supplies, and outdoor learning resources.
Join us in building a school that empowers young people, strengthens our community, and inspires educational innovation for generations to come.
