Story
I am recovering from a life saving craniotomy and sight saving eye surgery.
It was thought I was suffering from a common cold when, just 4 days later I was placed on a ventilator in A&E at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage. I then transferred to Addenbrookes that night for the surgeons to save my life.
I had lost ability to speak and was becoming paralysed as fluid quickly built up in my sinuses. Unfortunately the fluid penetrated my skull and was surrounding my brain. It compressed my brain which, without surgery, would have killed me. Fortunately the craniotomy was a success, and following 2 surgeries to drain fluid from behind my eye, the team were able to save both my eye and incredibly my sight.
I was unable to speak and was completely paralysed for 12 days. During this time I received the most amazing care in the Neuro Critical care ward. And from my family and friends. The messages sent to my parents, Marc & Victoria , and my brother Ryan, really did give them strength and belief when they were fearing the very worst. We all have so much love and thank you’d to give and say.
Ultimately I am recovering. I am so incredibly grateful and fortunate.
I am taking on the Lister Abseil Challenge to raise funds for my local hospital charity because I want to show my gratitude to those in A&E at Lister Hospital. Without whom I may not have had the super quick actions and transfer that saved my life.
Life is precious.
Please sponsor me for scaling down the 11 storey block and help me raise vital funds so the charity can go above and beyond for local patients, staff and families at the Lister, New QEII, Hertford County Hospitals and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
Thank you.
