Story
Hi All!
My names Chris Farnsworth (top left) and I’m the team captain of the world famous Potato Heads.
A little about me, I love hiking & have done some mighty walks over the past few years from reaching the summit of Scarfell Pike to tackling a 26 mile walk across the Lake District for Alzheimer’s and Dementia. I’m also a huge sports fan and will give anything a go once. I love my family and my 2 children which was also an added incentive for me to do this event as the money raised will go towards some vital research and provide support for those families affected.

Hi, my name is Paul Standring and I'm pleased to be part of the Potato Heads team for this great event.
All my life I've been enthusiastic about sport and enjoyed playing various types.
I love being outdoors and one of my favourite places in the UK is the Lake District where I have done various walks including Scafell and a 26 mile walk for charity. This year's Race the Sun is a test I'm really looking forward to with additions of cycling and canoeing to the walking, the other important reason for doing this event is to raise much needed funds for a vital and worthwhile cause, I have two grown up sons but still appreciate how important it is to support the vital work for children being done by this charity - Action Medical Research for Children.

A bit about me. I enjoy the outdoors and sports. Especially football. Love spending time with family and socialising with friends. When I was approached to take part in this event and having 2 young children myself I felt it was the perfect thing to commit to with the charities involved and what the money raised is for.

The Task:
We as a team have set a challenge of completing the Race The Sun event that takes place in the Lake District on Saturday 13th July 2024. This event we see us conquer a 28 mile mountain bike ride, a gruelling 803m hike in under 2rs 30 minutes to the summit of Old Man Coniston (seriously steep) and last but not least a 2 mile kayak across one of the many beautiful lakes that this area has to offer. All leading to the finish for a well deserved pint, I mean energy drink.
Why are we doing this?
Every year we love a good challenge and this year was no exception. Upon scrolling on multiple sites to see what we could do next, we couldn’t help but stop and read the fantastic work that Action Medical Research does for children and the guidance they provide for families that are battling with all types of illnesses. After a brief discussion we committed as a team to this charity and signed up for there event in July.
The plan…
Our target is to reach a total donation of £2000 for the charity which will help support the future research for Meningitis, Leukaemia, Polio & childhood Cancers. This funding will also provide vital materials to help families understand and deal with adapting their family life to ensure every day is a positive one.
