Story

In this box I’m going to tell you why I am choosing to fundraise for Cancer Immunology.

I'm fundraising for the Cancer Immunology Fund because of how my life has been affected by cancer.

In 2012 we lost my grandmother to breast cancer. She never seemed to run out of love and care. Her passion for food and baking was a bonus, loved by all who got to enjoy the delicious roasts and cakes. 8 years later my mum was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Devastated and angry were my feelings at that time as an 18yr old. Thankfully my tough cookie of a mother pulled through even with lockdown being in full swing. How I wish that was the end of my reasoning for choosing to fundraise for Cancer Immunology. Unfortunately my story continues with my dad and my brother. My dad thankfully caught his bladder cancer quickly before anything to serious occurred, twice in fact. My brother on the other hand wasn’t so lucky. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma at 21yrs old. After being not exactly the best of friends when we were little, it’s safe to say it brought our relationship closer than ever before. I quickly came to grips with the fact I only have one brother and any younger discrepancies were put aside. Though it’s sad that it took such a situation for me to realise. He got the all clear about a year later only to be called back into an appointment 5 months later to be told he was being re diagnosed. Since then he has fought valiantly for a second time and experienced things no one should ever have to go through, especially at his age. Bad things always happen to good people and I am so proud of everyone I have just mentioned. Beyond words.

For that reason I am going to try my absolute hardest in my fundraising run for Cancer Immunology. At the end of the day I am just one in millions of people going through a similar situation and although it for some reason never feels right asking for money, I hope you can see the benefits in donating to charities like Cancer Immunology who try their hardest everyday to help.

Thank you for reading, any donations are much appreciated.
