Story

Hiya! I'm Sami!

I love a good Sami Challenge and in 2024 I will be doing something mega, something that I have never done before! I'm about to embark on an extraordinary journey between now and May 2024. Since Aug 2020, I have taken part in lots of Sami Challenges. The last Sami Big Challenge was to walk the Pennine Way solo, carrying all of my kit in 2021. So, I feel that it's time for another one, don't you? Next year, I'm taking it up a notch – or should I say, 52.4 notches.

In the space of just three weeks, between April and May 2024, I'll be running not one, but two full marathons.

The reason behind this madness? Well, I have very luckily won a place in the London Marathon, and it feels selfish to not try and raise money for charity whilst I have such an amazing opportunity. Plus, if you haven't heard, I met Kevin Sinfield in May, and he suggested that I run the Leeds Marathon next year. Who can say no to Kevin right?

So that's the deal, run 2 Marathons, and raise £2k for charity!

I'm running to raise funds for The Yorkshire Children's Charity, who are doing incredible things for young people in Yorkshire!

"At Yorkshire Children’s Charity, we transform childhoods to make things better for the thousands of disadvantaged children in our region. We want to make sure no child or young person in Yorkshire is left behind due to ill health, disability, or financial circumstances. So we work hard to give young people a fair chance: a chance to live an inclusive life, full of opportunities to explore, where they can engage in the world around them. We help children be who they want to be and get where they want to go. This is why we exist, and we won’t stop until we succeed."

I feel really passionately about this and I need your help to raise as much as I can!

So sponsor me a pound a mile, that’s £52.40. This could fund a place on a school trip for a child who might not otherwise be able to go.

or

A quid a km, that’s £84.40. This could buy a seasonal essentials bundle for a child meaning they have basic clothing and toiletries e.g hat gloves and scarves in winter/hats, shorts, suncream etc in summer

The final total is going to make a HUGE difference to the children we support. For example, this amount could fund:

-A specialist piece of equipment or wheelchair for a child with a disability that would help them access the world around them. Equipment for disabled children is often prohibitively expensive, especially for families on a low income. We’ve recently had applications submitted for an all-terrain wheelchair for a little boy which is about £3.7k and a walker for a young girl which is £3.3k!

-A residential trip for a school class helps them to get stuck into outdoor learning and ensures that no child is left out due to finances

The Yorkshire Children's Charity is dedicated to changing the lives of children in need, and I believe that every small effort counts. So, I'm going the extra mile, or should I say 52.4 extra miles, to support their incredible work.

Join me in making 2024 the year we make a real impact on these children's lives. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated. Let's turn this mega challenge into a beacon of hope for the children who need it most.

Thank you for being a part of The Big Sami Challenge of 2024. Together, we'll make every step count.
