Story

Hi all, me again with the begging for our beloved Zoe's Place.

I have expressed before just how much the care and support Zoe's Place offers Annabelle means to me and this year I convinced Laura (my sister) to run along side me. So in only a few weeks we are taking on the challenge of the London Landmark's Half Marathon.

I asked Laura for a contribution of words for this page and apologies in advance. Everyone knows how much she loves to chat, however, what she sent back blew me away and quite frankly, I don't think I can add much more... please take a minute to read her words below and please donate if you can

Laura here, Rachel has roped me into this run with her and honestly, given it's been 8 years since my last half marathon, and really since I've done any running training at all, I admit I'm fairly daunted by the task.

However, running for Zoe's place makes the overwhelming mission completely worth it. Rach is the most qualified to tell you all about how incredible Zoe's place is and the phenomenal care that they provide for Annabelle, so I'll leave that up to her. But as Annabelle's Auntie, I'm so thankful that at Zoe's Place Annabelle is safe, cared for and gets to be the awesome kid she is. What Rach doesn't draw as much attention to is the support that Zoe's Place provide her and more importantly, why this is so vital.

Rachel is the most fierce, strong, caring, loving, present and determined Mum I know. Annabelle's day to day needs mean that she requires a level of care that sometimes even those closest to Rachel don't even fully comprehend. Rachel approaches every day with a smile on her face and hope in her heart but the reality is, the days are often long, and the nights longer, the worry never goes away and the love she has for Annabelle is unwavering and all consuming. Rach needs and deserves a break more than anyone I know, and there are few people she can turn to who have the skills and knowledge to care for Annabelle in a way that Rachel and Annabelle can trust.

Zoe's Place is safety and knowledge, it's love and care, it's understanding and compassion. It's everything Rachel needs to leave Annabelle in the trusted care of its wonderful staff so she gets to recharge and embrace experiences that keep her own light shining.

I run this race with Annabelle in my heart, every step I take, although I know it will be hard, is a reminder of the hard things she does everyday. But I run this race with Rachel in my mind, body and soul, she is the warrior every kid needs in their corner and the friend anyone would be lucky to have on their side and Zoe's Place affords her that little bit more time to recharge and face each day with that energy we all know and love.

If you've read this far, thank you so much and please donate not only to motivate us to cross that line but to allow Zoe's Place the opportunity to continue helping families like mine.
