As many of you are aware, last year (August 20th 2022) we sadly lost our co-owner, Nursery gardener and 'handy-man' - Greg Lloyd. For those of you who have joined us since, Greg was Louise's husband and Sophie's dad and his passing has left a huge hole in our nursery community.

Greg was a huge part of the nursery and he always took the time to speak to passing parents, children and staff, who loved him. We wouldn’t have this nursery if it wasn’t for Greg’s involvement in helping Louise set it up and take care of it for the last 19 years.

Greg was a police officer for South Wales Police but spent his days off, evenings and weekends helping out at the nursery. He kept our garden looking immaculate and even led a few gardening sessions with the older children where they planted and looked after vegetables.

Greg was fit and healthy prior to his cardiac arrest last summer and the sudden and unexpected nature of his death made such an incredible loss even more difficult for his family and us all.

To focus on something positive, Louise, Rhys (their son) and Sophie have began fundraising a research project in his memory. Their target of £20,000 will fund the Heath hospital's new research project into 'Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrests' which aims to treat and prevent this happening to other amazing people like Greg.

To raise the majority of this money, 120 of Greg's friends, family and colleagues will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 1st. This includes Louise, Sophie, Meg and Rachel from the nursery.

We wanted to do something here at The Alphabet Tree to honour the amazing man that Greg was which is why we have decided to do a sponsored walk. This will take place on Saturday 30th September, leaving the nursery car park at 9am and walking up to Castle View's lake. We will complete 3 laps of the lake before returning back to the nursery. The short nature of this walk hopes to allow all of our families and children to attend and of course, prams are welcome for our younger children and babies.

Greg was such a bright and happy man which is why we invite you to wear bright colours and/or fancy dress for our sponsored walk. Please share this page with family/friends to help Greg's family to reach their target.
