Story

Martin Jackson (me) and Martin Callaghan are taking on the Grand Depart Classic 2025, a 185km bike ride in Lille (Stage 1 of this year's Tour de France) in order to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK. Whilst we may not be regarded as the most athletic specimens in BDO's Baker Street office, we will be donning the lycra and hitting the road as we gear up for Saturday 28 June.

Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men and Prostate Cancer UK funds important research into both the treatment and detection of the disease, as well as providing support for patients and family members. I myself am all too aware of the work that they do, having lost my own father last year to prostate cancer at the age of 59.

Following his Stage 4 diagnosis, my father battled the disease for two and a half years before he passed. To this day I still struggle to comprehend the level of grit, perseverance and strength he was able to summon through some of the darkest times imaginable. If we are able to raise money to help other men get tested and get the treatment they need, then a bit of muscle ache feels worth it!
