Story

Greetings from the Hospice Hikers!

In November 2024, we, the Hospice Hikers, are embarking on an extraordinary journey. As frontline staff from Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, we're trading our scrubs and uniforms for hiking gear as we prepare to trek across the Sahara Desert for four days and three nights. This incredible adventure is not just about conquering the dunes in scorching heat – it's about raising essential funds for the hospice and marking its 30th anniversary.

Our team is a diverse mix of individuals from various departments, including nursing, rehabilitation, bereavement counseling, and volunteering. Each of us plays a vital role in providing care and support to patients and families in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and London Borough of Bexley.

Every day, we witness the impact of our work as we provide compassionate palliative and end-of-life care to those facing terminal or life-limiting conditions. Now, we're stepping out of our comfort zones to go the extra mile – quite literally – in support of our hospice's mission.

With a fundraising target of £6 million annually, we understand the importance of our efforts in ensuring the sustainability of the hospice's crucial services. Our goal is to contribute to this cause and ensure that our hospice can continue to provide high-quality care into the future. Together, we're committed to making a positive difference in our community, one step at a time.

The Hospice Hikers includes: Graham Turner (Director of Care & Service Transformation), Ellen Tumelty (Matron for Inpatient Services), Natalie Moseley (Head of Community Services). Tania White (Deputy Sister for the Inpatient Unit and Virtual Ward), Hannah Doubleday (Team Lead for Rehabilitation & Wellbeing), Sue Marsden (Team Leader, Community Palliative Care Team), Leslie Price (Bereavement Counselor). Haiqin Li (Staff Nurse). Irene Baumgartl (Compassionate Neighbor Coordinator), and Amy White-Moore (Virtual Ward Nurse).

We welcome any support and have set up this page as a place where people can donate to the team as a collective. Thank you for considering supporting the hospice in this way. Together we can ensure Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice continues to stand as a steadfast beacon of hope and comfort for the community we proudly serve.
