The GFC School have conquered some titanic challenges over the years all in the name of charity, and this year we are looking to raise the bar with their most tricky and treacherous test yet!

Having previously used the Rainham End steps to scale the equivalent of Mt Everest as well as a grueling Three Peaks challenge, staff thought it was high time they put on the hiking boots to tackle a real mountain, and what better one than the highest in England and Wales: Mt Snowden!

In addition to climbing the mammoth 1085 meter mountain, the staff will have to drive over 270 miles overnight to start the ascent at the crack of dawn and with it taking place in March the climbers are likely to face some unforgiving conditions.

"We hope for a clear day," said organising staff member and PE teacher Tom Creed. "But we are all too aware that the Welsh weather may be unkind to us and make it much more difficult."

School students won't be letting the adults do all the work and they will be aiming to walk, cycle and row a combined 277 miles which will replicate the journey needed to reach the base of the colossal mountain all the way from the steps of Priesfield stadium.

"It's going to be a real team effort," said Director of Education Susan Wade. "It is our biggest challenge yet and we are again hoping to make some money for a worthy cause. Please get behind the staff and students of The GFC School. I have no doubt that every single person will rise to the challenge."
