We are raising £3,500 to donate to Hackney Foodbank as part of The Five Points’ Hackney Half charity initiative.

The Five Points Brewing Company is raising £3,500 as part of its charity initiative in aid of Hackney Foodbank for the Hackney Half. We are raising funds on behalf of our 7 participating members of our Five Points Team, with the aim of raising at least £500 per runner through JustGiving, alongside our other fundraising activities.

Hackney Foodbank is a registered charity (number 1149896) whom we have previously raised funds for. During and after the Hackney Half last year, we raised £787 across two sites with our 50p per Five Points pint donation. This year, we are running the Hackney Half with the aim of raising even more money for Hackney Foodbank so that they can continue to provide emergency food for those in need of support.

In addition to our JustGiving page, we are also hosting further fundraising initiatives at The Five Points Taproom & Courtyard, including a beer we brewed to benefit Hackney Foodbank, which will be on sale throughout the month of May.

Demand for Hackney Foodbank has risen by 20% in a year – the charity is currently providing emergency food for around 750 people per week. That’s more than £40,000 worth of food each month. Many of the people supported by the food bank have long term health conditions, others are survivors of domestic violence and many work but simply don’t earn enough to cover the essentials. Most (over 70%) only come to the food bank between one and three times a year. Increasingly, the food bank is working to help people on to better situations. Their caseworkers help visitors access benefits and grants for furniture, heating and more, refer people on to an expert debt advisor and help some into employment.
