The Bolton Girls Run the London Marathon for Leukaemia UK

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 · Start fundraising for this event
Hello! We (Emma and Kate) are running the London Marathon for Leukaemia UK. There are so mamy reasons to run for this amazing charity, and one of the main motivations for us is that our little sister, Alice, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in May 2024.
If it wasn't for running, we wouldn't have caught Alice's diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia so early and started treatment promptly. It only seemed right that we therefore raise money for a charity that is spearheading research that has helped develop medicines and methods that are currently saving Alice’s life.
Running is and has been a significant source of strength during this challenging journey for all three of us. There was a little park outside the hospital in Australia where Alice was admitted for the first month of treatment, and we would run laps around that park for our own mental health. When we returned to the UK, we all ran together in between rounds of chemotherapy to help build Alice’s strength back up.
Alice was due to run the London Marathon with us after finding out that she was in remission in October 2024. Unfortunately, this March, we got the devastating news that she had relapsed and the leukaemia was back.
Alice will now undergo a stem cell transplant from one of us in the coming months. We will both still be running the London Marathon to raise awareness and raise funds for life-saving research and incredible cause, with Alice supporting us still through the entire thing (in some ways, it will be like she is still running by our sides).
Any donation is hugely appreciated. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by leukaemia. We hope to see some of you at the finish line!
Best do it at a bit of a run if you're nervous.
