Story
The Ashfold Community are coming together to dribble 3000km in order to raise as much as they can for the OSCAR foundation girls and boys tour 2023.
Ashfold School's journey with OSCAR begun with Colin MacIntosh our Headmaster meeting Ashok through Lucinda Sowerbutts in 2015 and the first UK football tour was born. Eight years on, we are again supporting OSCAR and Ashok's team by being part of a group of schools helping to bring a team of eight girls and a team of eight boys from the OSCAR community from Mumbai to play UK schools. The journey has continued with three Ashfold mummies travelling to Mumbai to visit the work of OSCAR and catch the vision. We look forward to meeting the intrepid girls and boys of the 2023 OSCAR tour when they come to stay at Ashfold in October 2023.

OSCAR uses football to instil the value of education and empower underprivileged children with life skills to take responsibility for the development of their community. Ashok Rathod, co-founded OSCAR in 2006 aged 18. Born and brought up in the Ambedkar Nagar slum in Mumbai, he had a difficult life but was fortunate his parents sent him to school. An education gave Ashok the chance to create a better life, whilst many of his friends fell into crime, addiction and early marriage. Ashok was determined to do something to stop the destructive poverty cycle. He set up OSCAR with 18 school drop-outs, teaching them football and patiently waiting for his moment to introduce the concept of going to school. Today OSCAR engages over 3,000 girls and boys.
