I'm raising money for the homeless.

It’s only a matter of weeks since many of us returned from a summer vacation, and whilst we don’t always want to entertain the idea - it will soon get colder, as the seasons start to change.

Now, for us office workers, that probably means nothing more than getting the winter coat out from the wardrobe - and updating the morning greeting to reflect the drop in temperature … “ohhh, it’s cold out!” , “ my train was delayed and my toes were freezing” etc etc.

But, spare a thought for the homeless in our community, for whom the onset of winter brings a much more serious peril.

It is estimated that there are around 270,000 homeless people in the UK, and with the current economic climate - that figure is expected to rise.

Every day we see people who are homeless, and yet somehow become de-sensitized to their stories - and are unsure of the best ways to help.

Well, despite the lack of a perfect answer, one of my best friends - ( we were roommates at school and have been friends for over 30 years ) - has volunteered at his local homeless shelter for the past 10 years - providing a lifeline for those most in need, helping them to get back on their feet and build themselves back.

Each year, he helps arrange a major fundraising drive which involves sleeping rough overnight to raise money for the shelter and the services they provide. And this year - I have agreed to join him - sleeping rough on the street for the night - to help raise funds.
