Story
Following last year's successful Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, Team Shipway are taking on another challenge, this year... the Lake District 5 Peaks Challenge raising money for "MyBag" Charity, a five-year-old Nottinghamshire based charity.
The Team: James Richards, James Archer, Martin Farmer, Tom Mallory, Harry Goodband, Tom Gudyer, James Stevenson, Liam Brown and Lewie Ainsworth.
The Challenge: Covering 14 miles (22km) of mountainous terrain. Ascend more than 1500m in a single day. That's more ascent than Ben Nevis, the UK's highest mountain! Summiting 5 of the highest hills in the Lake District, Scafell Pike (978m) Great End (910m) Ill Crag (935m) Allen Crags (785m) and Rossett Pike (651m).
The Charity: MyBag - a charity who provide a practical bag of comfort items for every child that enters the foster care system. Their aim is to ease the traumatic experience of entering foster care and was founded due to two of the trustees having experiences as foster carers of children turning up with either no possessions at all or their possessions in bin bags.
The bags contain a teddy, a blanket, books, toys and games. All items are brand new either primary or secondary bags with age-appropriate items.
Since 2020 they have also been offering MyBox which goes to young people aged 16-18 years who live in semi-independent care. They include key hygiene products, books, items to make a meal and other key comfort items. These young people are extremely vulnerable and are often preyed on by local gangs due to their situation. They typically have £7 a day to pay for everything other than accommodation and bills. There is little adult supervision of these young people in placements so often nobody to teach them the basics of living alone. The boxes are delivered quarterly to try and offer stability and consistency to help their money go a little further.
The funds raised will go directly to the charity, who will then use these funds to provide My Bags and My Boxes.
Team Shipway are very grateful for any support you can give to help reach their goal and make a difference in the lives of these children and young people. Together, we can make a real impact on their lives!
