Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Team Sepsis are taking part in the Park Run at Trentham Gardens to create awareness to the Staffordshire Community on sepsis prevention.

Team Sepsis @UHNM is committed to saving lives from sepsis. As a part of their mission, they want this event to be the start of the campaign to educate the impact of sepsis to wider community and public including schools, colleges and care homes. This is just the beginning ….

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition and a medical emergency. It is caused by the body’s abnormal response to an infection. Normally, our own immune system will protect us from an infection. However, in sepsis the body’s immune system goes into overdrive and has an extreme response to an infection.

Sepsis is a process of blood poisoning that happens when patients develop severe infection. This process can affect the vital organs such as heart, lung, kidney and brain. This can result in the organs not functioning properly, which if not identified and treated early, can lead to death.

Each year in the UK, it is estimated that more than 250,000 people are admitted to hospital with sepsis and around 52,000 people will die as a result of the condition.

As Sepsis is a medical emergency, not dissimilar to a stroke or a heart attack, it is important for everybody in the community to recognise sepsis and if appropriate to seek medical advice. To reduce the impact of sepsis to patients, both short and long term, it is important to create a wider engagement and understanding. Therefore, the sepsis team at UHNM are trying to increase public awareness of the life-threatening condition.

So please do join us on Saturday 30th September, to fight sepsis together, the more the better, everyone is welcome! Or please donate to help raise funds to support awareness of Sepsis and It's importance.
