Story
The Real Food Cafe has supported the Toilet Twinning charity for several years and has already raised sufficient funds to build 170 toilets for schools and communities in Malawi, that don't have these basic facilities.
During 2024 the cafe will be organising various events and activities to raise further funds with the aim of taking our total number of toilets built to over 200.
Our 2024 plan starts with a walk of The West Highland Way. This is a gruelling 95 mile trail, particularly as we are tackling it so early in the year, when the weather could do anything!
We need to be back at the cafe in time to prepare ourselves and be ready for the Easter holidays and ensuing 2024 tourist season.
Its seems like a good omen that March this year is also Scottish Tourism Month, so this is a great way for us to join in and literally walk the walk!!
The trail starts in Milngavie (north Glasgow) and passes through stunning scenery of the Loch Lomond National Park, northwards through Glen Coe to finish in Fort William.
We will leave Milngavie at 10.00 on Sunday 10 March and aim to reach Fort William by 17.00 on Saturday 16 March.
There will be a core team of four of us who are Charles, Mirela, Nelu and myself and we will be joined by other members of our team and customers along the way.
100% of all funds raised will go to Toilet Twinning to help to transform lives in some of the poorest places on the planet.
Vulnerable households and communities will: learn about the importance of sanitation and hygiene; build their own loo; gain access to clean water; enjoy better health - and take a massive step out of generational poverty.
