Story
In 2016 Rosie, the love of my life, passed away. During the dark days that followed, playing with my my Grandson Hari was what kept me going. And then our world was shattered when Hari passed away on 28th of October 2017 from meningitis in Temple Street Children's Hospital aged of 2 years, 4 months and 19 days. At that devastating time the love compassion and empathy shown by the wonderful staff at Temple Street was simply extraordinary. And the follow up help for my daughter Eileen and husband Aled was a huge help in the grieving process. To give back something in recognition of the care and help and to help us in our grieving my son Dara and myself became part of a group of wonderful people known as the Irish 66ers. We raise funds for Childrens Health Foundation by taking part in the Temple Street Route 66 challenge. This takes place every 2 years and involves raising a minimum of €10,000 each and riding the old Route 66 road from Chicago to Los Angeles; 2,494 miles over 11 days. Having taken part in 2022 and currently 2024 we are now fundraising for 2026 event.
All donations go to CHF. We pay all expenses incurred in this challenge ourselves.
