In November 2024 our truly inspirational little boy Freddie was diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the age of just 5 years old.

Thanks to the incredible oncology team at Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) Freddie has done incredibly well during a period in his life that no child should ever have to endure, how he has responded to treatment has completely blown us away, they say children are resilient but we don’t know how resilient they are until that resilience is tested.

In those first few days while our world was turned upside down the Children’s Oncology based charity Candlelighters became our “Rock”. The support they offer is literally never ending, as a family we have been extremely lucky to have had the support from Candlelighters from day 1 of Freddie’s journey, they have made our lives almost “normal” during a truly awful time.

From the never ending deliveries of Tea’s, Coffee’s and Hot Chocolates to us & Freddie during the days spent in clinic while he underwent treatment & procedures to providing accommodation to the families who aren’t so lucky to have the Children’s Oncology at LGI on their doorsteps, the list of services is never ending and nothing at all is too much trouble for them!

Freddie’s treatment will last until at least December 2026, where we’ll all be hoping he’ll be ringing that bell and knowing that we have Candlelighters by our sides up to that day and beyond removes a huge weight from ours and Freddie’s shoulders.

We feel the charity and the amazingly selfless people who work for Candlelighters have become a huge part of our family, we really can’t express enough how appreciative we are for their help along the way and we are making it our mission to raise as much money as we possibly can via “Team Freddie” so that the families who will start their own journeys with LGI Children’s Oncology keep on receiving the same care and compassion that we have from day one from the amazing Candlelighters.
