Story

In 2021, my mum was feeling unwell when her temperature suddenly spiked to over 40 degrees. After three days of no improvement, she called 111 and was sent straight to hospital. There, she was immediately given antibiotics and began undergoing tests.

For nearly 10 days no one could work out what was happening and nothing they tried seemed to work. It was frightening and horrible and she lives with the trauma of it to this day.

This was all during the height of lockdown, meaning that whilst my dad could be with her, me and my sisters couldn't even visit. Mum was convinced she would never leave the hospital, terrified she was going to die.

On the tenth day, her temperature finally dropped and she was allowed to come home. Her discharge notes read; 'sepsis - cause unknown'.

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Our family is so lucky mum is still here and fabulous as ever. But for so many this isn't the case.

That's why me, Liam and our sweet Gary & Mabel are taking on this challenge. Together we will walk 60 miles throughout February (also mum's birthday month!) so that more brilliant people get the help they need.

Queen D - we love you and our little legs are going to do you proud! x
