Story
On Sunday 29th June 2025 four of us will take on the UK Three Peaks Challenge, attempting to do it in under 24 hours. There’ll be blood, toil, tears and sweat – and that’ll just be from the journey up to Scotland.
Ben, Darren, Graham and LJ will climb up and down Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (originally called Snowdon). There has already been drama during the training walks, with Ben suffering a twisted ankle, Graham abandoning his teammates in search of glory at Ben Nevis, Darren’s whistling walking poles summoning the ghosts of Scafell and LJ’s never-ending patience with her fellow climbers. We’re indebted to Paul, who will be our chauffeur between the three tallest mountains in the UK.
The plan is to start the walk on the Sunday at 5pm and to finish the following day by the same time, allowing further rest time before and during the challenge whilst also trying to maximise the sunlight time. The travel time between each peak will be crucial, along with recovery and trying (if possible!) to jog the last few steps. The group of us are colleagues and friends, so rest assured there’ll be plenty of encouragement and gentle teasing along the way.
The challenge is to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). MND is one of the cruellest diseases and it affects the lives of so many people. Ben’s friend Richard, Graham’s sister and Graham’s friend Richard have all passed away from MND in the last few years, and the team will be remembering them during the challenge. Every penny counts towards furthering research into MND and finding a cure.
So raise a glass for us and offer moral support as we return from our escapades with sore knees and aching muscles. Whether we do it in 24 hours or not doesn’t really matter; we want to have fun and help to spread some awareness. To quote a footballing cliché, ‘we go again’.
The MND Association focus on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the MND Association. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, your details are safe - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Thank you again
