Story
On 7 April 2024, several of the Wiles and a few family friends will be running the London Landmarks half marathon in memory of Mary and David Wiles, Great Grandparents, Grandparents, parents and dear friends to many. These two amazing people, who we sadly lost in recent years to bowel cancer and dementia, touched so many people’s hearts with their warmth, kindness and generosity.
We wanted to do something together as a family in their memory to raise some money for charity so we have decided to run for two charities which are very close to our hearts - Dementia UK and Bowel Cancer UK.
For those of you that don’t know the half marathon (13.1 miles) route takes you through the centre of London and pass some of the city's most iconic landmarks - Somerset House, St Paul’s Cathedral, The Bank of England, Monument and The Tower of London. The final stretch is along the river and over Westminster Bridge finishing at Downing Street.
Charlotte, Lauren, Charlie, Barnaby and Alana will be running for Dementia UK and hope to raise £1,750 between them for this amazing Charity. Training is well underway with the miles quickly clocking up as the weeks go on.
If you would like to donate, we would all be extremely grateful. All donations received are hugely appreciated and we want to thank everyone for their support. Please see below the ways in which your donations together could help Dementia UK.
£255 could fund a dementia nurse to provide in-depth specialist support on our free Helpline for eight families in crisis
£390 could keep their helpline run at full capacity for an hour, supporting families in urgent need of expert dementia support
£1,125 could fund a new specialist dementia nurse for a whole week to support a community where people are struggling to access local dementia services.
We will keep you updated on Instagram with our training runs and will be sure to share some photos with you of how we get on the day.
