We raise awareness and understanding of BDD to relieve the suffering of those affected

Story

My colleagues and I are thrilled to be participating in the JLR Challenge 2024 on 21st September to raise funds for the "BDD Foundation". We will embark on a series of orienteering and team building activities to raise money and support individuals affected by Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD).

With over 600 participants this is believed to be the largest company challenge event in the UK. Participants are drawn from right across the company and the event offers a unique environment where apprentices, graduates, production staff and senior managers work together on a level playing field. Teamwork and Leadership are the key themes as teams work together to undertake a wide variety of tasks and walking routes in tough terrain and often in challenging weather conditions.

The Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation (BDD Foundation) is a small but high-impact national charity for people in the UK who are affected by the debilitating anxiety disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). Although we are UK based, as the only charity in the world exclusively dedicated to this condition, we have a global reach.

BDD is an under-recognised and under-diagnosed mental health disorder which consists of a disabling preoccupation with perceived defects or flaws in appearance. It affects around 1 in 50 people in the UK, interferes substantially with a person's ability to function in everyday life, can cause devastating distress, and sadly, high levels of suicidal ideation and suicide.

The BDD Foundation's aim is to raise awareness of BDD amongst the public and healthcare professionals; to ensure people suffering with the condition get the support and information they need to improve their well-being and quality of life; to reduce the stigma, discrimination and isolation caused by living with this debilitating illness.

Any money raised will contribute to the sustainability of their email helpline, zoom support groups and Overcoming BDD programme as well as other initiatives they will be starting shortly.

Your generous donations will directly contribute to this important cause.
