Story
To fundraise for WheelPower, Team RSA (Lucy Higgins, Martin Duncuft, Alan Gairns & Darren Bucys) will be taking part in the Stoke Mandeville Games experience.
WheelPower has been providing opportunities for disabled people in sport for over 75 years. It all began in 1948 when the first Stoke Mandeville Games were hosted, with the aim of rehabilitating those affected by spinal cord injuries through movement, activity, and sport. From this, the Paralympics was born.
Today, WheelPower continues to host sports events for disabled individuals at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and across the UK. Participants have the chance to meet coaches and like-minded individuals, play wheelchair sports, and test out specialist equipment.
For Team RSA, there is a personal connection. Hannah Bucys was a competitive trampolinist who sustained a spinal cord injury in a training accident in 2018. Hannah's mum, dad and sister all work for RSA. Her journey exemplifies the impact of WheelPower's work. she found solace and passion in wheelchair sports through WheelPower's initiatives.
Now excelling at wheelchair basketball and rugby, she is part of the GB Wheelchair Rugby talent Paralympic pathway and will be competing in the USA and Paris later this year.
By supporting WheelPower through our fundraising efforts for the 'Clyde & Co Stoke Mandeville Experience Day 2024', you can be part of this transformative work helping disabled individuals lead active and healthy lives.
