Story

Tayla Brons, Specialist Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist at STEPS Rehabilitation, will be running the London Marathon on 27th April 2025 in support of the STEPS Rehabilitation Foundation.

Tayla, an experienced long-distance runner, has been training since January 2025 for the event, aiming to achieve a personal best. Having grown up in a family of marathon and ultramarathon runners in South Africa, she has already completed multiple marathons and ultramarathons. Looking ahead, she hopes to return to South Africa to take on the renowned Comrades Marathon once again.

“I've grown up with parents running marathons and ultramarathons, so I have big shoes to fill! I've always had a keen interest in keeping fit and healthy, and I can feel the benefits to my mental health and well-being—I get very agitated if I don’t exercise!"

Initially, Tayla entered the London Marathon through a "Good for Age" qualification, meaning she didn’t need to run for a charity.

“It’s a bucket list marathon to do. I've not been successful in the ballot system to gain an entry in many years. So instead, I trained last year and ran a marathon PB and qualified for a "Good for Age" time, which was submitted and successful - so I've got an entry. I am very lucky and excited to run the London Marathon.”

Despite qualifying for the for the London Marathon through her ‘Good for Age’ time, she has now chosen to use this opportunity to raise vital funds for the STEPS Rehabilitation Foundation, which supports individuals recovering from complex trauma injuries and illnesses.

“It feels good to be able to run and help raise money for those people who need it—to be able to contribute to the STEPS Foundation and help individuals who have had life-changing events happen to them. The funds raised will help them purchase essential equipment or contribute to adaptations in their home to enable them to live a better quality of life.”
