Story
My Mum, Jenny Adams, was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2018. This degenerative disease is the second most common dementia, accounting for 15% of all dementias. It has some overlapping symptoms with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s but also distinct and difficult to manage features, such as delusions and hallucinations.
At the age of 72, my parents were given a life changing diagnosis with very little knowledge and advice from medical professionals. The Lewy Body Society funds specialist Admiral Nurses who advise and support families, providing an absolute lifeline and light in times of darkness.
The Lewy Body Society was founded in 2006 to support research into Lewy body dementia and to raise awareness of the disease. They aim to educate the public, the medical professions and those in decision-making positions about the disease, which unfortunately is still not well known.
