Story

Hi!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page for the incredible charity that is Open Arms Malawi.

I, with two of my best mates Rosie and Indie, will be running the Great North Run in Newcastle on the 8th of September in the hopes to raise some funds for this incredible organisation to continue to provide care for some of the most vulnerable children in the world. These kids are critically high-risk, often abandoned by their mothers, so when found they can be taken into an Open Arms Infant home to be supported by the selfless humans who work there- providing exceptional specialist care through the form of nursing, stability and love. With 54% of children having stunted growth due to malnutrition, Open Arms works tirelessly to provide food not only for the children in their homes, but in the communities and schools beyond.

We were privileged enough to visit the Infant homes in Blantyre and Mangochi on our expedition there with Lancing College in 2022 where the children were so well cared for and loved, it was almost impossible to comprehend the traumatic events that had landed themselves there. They are only alive today because of the donations that allows Open Arms to save their lives. The magnitude of this was solidified in meeting the boys from Roses House, the first foster house of Open Arms, which is also supported by Lancing College. They're now approaching adulthood and have the opportunity for further education, which is rare in Malawi with only 10% of children attending upper-secondary school. I think I can safely say we were in awe of just how much Open Arms does for these children, to allow them to defeat every obstacle for them to even reach adulthood- something we all take for granted.

Some of you may remember Rosie and Indie ran a half marathon in aid of our Malawi expedition in 2022. Unfortunately, I (Tallulah) was ill and very begrudgingly missed out so have manipulated them into doing another on the other side of the country! After experiencing Open Arms first hand, supporting them is now even more special and significant for us. I was still unwell on the trip, but I think it’s safe to say ‘the warm heart of Africa’ healed a part of me- especially visiting the infant home in Mangochi- it’s an experience that I and we, will forever be grateful for.

Your donations, big or small are giving these children a chance at life, even a small sum for us is life changing in Malawi. £10 provides a weeks formula milk for a child, £40 provides a 'going home pack' for the child to take back to their community- including a mosquito net, 25kg of Likuni Phala and more. Only £150 pounds provides a years salary to an incredibly compassionate member of care staff.

Thank you all for getting thru the absolute waffle + moreover for your support!!!

Pitani Bwino!!! - Tallulah, (Rosie and Indie) xxxx
