Team JRS UK is taking on the London Marathon 2025 to raise vital funds for our work accompanying, serving and advocating for the rights of refugees!

Story

So after much though and quite a bit of procrastination, I’ve finally decided to run a marathon!

I’m only going to run one marathon ever, so it had to be the London Marathon 2025.

So a big decision all round and naturally I want to use this opportunity to fundraise if possible and my chosen charity is the Jesuit Refugee Service, JRS UK, which works tirelessly to support refugees.

People who have been forced to flee their homes and seek sanctuary in the UK are often faced with destitution and hostility.

JRS UK accompanies, serves and advocates for the rights of refugees - providing essential support like food, accommodation and advice as well as helping people to navigate a hostile asylum system.

Well I'm two pairs of trainers into my training programme and it's now only two months to go!!!

Today as I was back up in Rawtenstall I was able to return to one of my old run routes, Rawtenstall -Bury-Ramsbottom. 23.5km in total before Paul collected me. An enjoyable run, but I'm heading back to London now for the rest of my training.

I'm sort of enjoying it, but it is pretty relentless. However, it's not about me. It's about JRS.

If you can sponsor me and support them, I'd be very grateful. Funds raised can go towards: -

£10 provides a monthly mobile credit and data top-up to ensure refugee friends are in touch with charities and loved ones

£15 can provide a refugee with a regular supply of essential toiletries

£25 can help baby essentials such as nappies, baby wipes and baby food

£50 can pay for an emergency hardship grant to newly destitute refugees

£100 helps JRS UK offer legal casework advice and support to refugees

JRS UK accompanies, serves and advocates for the rights of refugees. We work in a spirit of hospitality, compassion and solidarity to give hope, justice and dignity to refugees.
