Story
I'm taking on the 'MyMiles' challenge for My Awareness Month during June 2024 to help support the myasthenia community. I’m aiming to walk on average of 10 miles each day throughout June totalling 300 miles for the month!
A year after Joes original diagnosis he is still requiring extensive treatment to stabilise this condition and edge him closer to his goal of remission.
Myasthenia Gravis has robbed him a year of school, hanging out with his mates and doing all the normal everyday things kids his age should be doing and that we take for granted. Temporarily losing the ability to smile, speak, swallow, and walk. Relying on an ng tube to eat at times and take his medication. Witnessing him choke , struggle to breath requiring immediate life saving treatment not once but 3 times broke me 💔 He spent over 4 months continuously in hospital last year (3+ weeks in intensive care) , intubated and put on a ventilator 4 times due to suffering multiple Myasthenic Crisis and collapsed lungs, has had multiple cycles of IVIg, a cycle of Rituximab, surgical procedures including a thymectomy & central line and now currently countless sessions of Double Filtered Plasmapherisis. Every step I take during this challenge will be a reminder of how far he has come during his journey. Even at the toughest points of his journey so far he has shown great courage, strength and resilience when battling this debilitating rare disease. Me challenging myself to do this to raise money for Myaware is nothing in comparison to what he has had to deal with. I have felt so incredibly helpless at times and so now by doing this I finally feel like I can give something back and help in another way. Walking is also a good opportunity to reset my mind and helps me process and heal from this last year mentally. I’m praying one day they will find a cure for this horrible disease!!!
Every penny you donate will support people living with this rare condition.
The money you donate is ensuring our community can continue to fight myasthenia together.
So please donate if you can and help me to raise funds for this brilliant cause!
